Stuart Plymesser: Equity Stage Manager
Originally from Rhode Island, Stuart is in his fifth season at Syracuse Stage and has worked on over twenty productions since he arrived in Syracuse in 1996.
Stuart graduated from Rhode Island College in May of 1995 with a BA in technical Theatre and a personal focus in Stage Management. While at Rhode Island College, Stuart stage managed the following productions on the college main stage and in the student Blackbox space: The Time of Your Life, Sweeney Todd, Amadeus, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Uncommon Women and Others, The Boys Next Door, Works, Accomplice, and On the Verge. While in college, Stuart worked for two summer stocks, New Bedford Festival Theatre, Inc (stage managing Nunsense and Evita.) and RI College's summer theatre. (stage managing two cabaret shows)
Following graduation, Stuart hopped into his car and headed into the Midwest for a year putting in two summer seasons at Timber Lake Playhouse as Production Stage Manager and working as a stage management intern at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park for their 1995-96 season. After finishing off his second summer at Timber Lake, Stuart headed back east to Syracuse, NY and Syracuse Stage.
Stuart's first season at Syracuse Stage was as one of two stage management apprentices hired for the 1996-97 season. Stuart's apprentice contract was cut short, though, when he was hired to stage manage a new musical version of The Wind in the Willows produced by Syracuse Stage. The show's local success allowed it to travel to New York for an Off-Broadway engagement at the New Victory Theatre. Stuart, however, did not go with the show to the city. Instead, when his season at Syracuse Stage ended, he traveled to New Hampshire to work as Production Stage Manager for the Mt. Washington Valley Theatre Company. Following that summer of `97, Stuart headed to Boston to begin rehearsals for his first tour with Chamber Theatre Productions, Inc. Stuart was hired to be Company Stage Manager for Chamber Theatre's debut production of Classics - a compilation of short stories by Poe, Saki, Hawthorne, O.Henry, and Dahl. Stuart was on the road for roughly 3-4 months, traveling form Boston to Oklahoma City to Ft. Worth to New York City and points between. While in Oklahoma City at the Will Rogers Theatre, Stuart received a phone call from Syracuse Stage hiring him to come back on an Equity contract to stage manage Edward Albee's Three Tall Women. Since becoming a resident Stage Manager at Syracuse Stage, Stuart has also worked at the Hangar Theatre in Ithaca, NY - serving as Production Stage Manager for two seasons.
Since then, Stuart has been a permanent resident of Syracuse (with his wife Kristina and their two lovely cats - Jake and Spats) and is now a member of the staff at Syracuse Stage. Recently, Stuart has enrolled in Syracuse University's MFA program and is working on his graduate degree while continuing with Syracuse Stage.
